Q: Do my organisation need fire wardens?
A: In most cases the answer will be yes.
Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, puts a legal requirement on the responsible person to ensure there is sufficient number of trained persons to help with evacuation.
Aside from legal requirements fire wardens help to keep your place safer, and should the worst happen they might be vital to ensuring everyone gets out safely.
Fire Wardens duties don’t stop on just assisting during evacuation.
The role is critical to safety of any organisation and we ensure your wardens are well equipped to improve fire safety within your workplace.
Q: How many wardens do we need?
A: There is no simple answer to this question.
Law is not prescriptive in this matter, and your Fire Risk Assessment should offer you further advice on the number of required fire wardens.
- When thinking about number of wardens required do not forget to allow for holiday and sickness absence and cover.
- Additionally, organisations with high staff rotation should train additional wardens to ensure they are not left without one.
Q: How often do wardens need to be trained.
A: Most of the industry specialist recommend refresher training every 3 years.
Q: what is the difference between fire warden and fire marshal?
A: Simple answer is none. Both terms are used interchangeably. In some organizations both terms might be used to distinguish staff with additional responsibilities (i.e. in person in control of the evacuation, person responsible for fire safety in the organization etc.)
