NEW AND EXPECTANT MOTHERS RISK ASSESSMENT

Why

In some workplaces, there are risks that may affect the health and safety of new and expectant mothers and that of their child,

and there are specific laws that require employers to protect the health and safety of new and expectant mothers.

Legislation to protect the health and safety of new and expectant mothers at work, include:

Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (MHSW)

Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 (the Workplace Regulations)

Equality Act 2010

How

Our assessor will attend employee workplace and will conduct the survey of the workstation, and consultation with the employee. Part of the survey will include DSE assessment of the workstation (where applicable), and undertaking necessary adjustment were required and possible.

Advice and guidance will be given to the employee on the day, and two risk assessments (DSE and New and Expectant Mothers Risk Assessments) will be produced in electronic form.

When should we conduct the assessment?

It is recommended to undertake the assessment as soon as you know the employee is pregnant.

In rare cases as pregnancy develops a re-assessment might be required at later stage, if there are any significant changes.

Assessment should also be re-vised if there are changes to the employee role or workstation.
